Székely István: Chronica

The work of István Bencédi Székely was publised in 1559 with the title “Chronicle About the Noted Things of this World”. This was the first historical book in Hungarian that describes the history of 5520 years, i.e. the story of the world.

The cronicle of István Székely can be considered to be the first world history written in hungarian language, summarizing 5520 years of history. The first part – according to the religious concept of the age – shows the ages from the Creation till the Deludge, the second part the deals with the age of the Old Testament and the third part is of the history after the birth of Christ. The scientist humanist noted the last event on 14th of November 1558.
